Here is a link to an article I read over the weekend regarding a change in the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) plan in the way we test and evaluate students. I thought it was a good read, I hope you do as well.
The article was from the Record Courier and can be found here http://www.record-courier.com/news/20180829/state-education-plan-shifts-away-from-test-results
Brief Summary of the article:
The ODE has a new 5 year plan that is shifting the focus from test scores to a student's life after graduation. The goal is to increase the percentage of high school graduates one year after graduation who are either enrolled in college, participating n an career-technical education program, enrolled in the military, or have a job paying a living wage. The article talks about preparing students for success both socially and academically, developing the "whole child". The 3 challenges facing the education system for this plan are to prepare students for the rapidly changing job market and the new skill sets, meeting the needs of the increasingly diverse student population, and providing the proper support for the growing number of poor children.
