In this week’s article it discussed the generational change from Millennials to iGen and the changes in the way they interact. The article addresses how the drastic change in behaviors of the different generations. When millennials came around they acted very different than the generations before them, and now with iGen they have come along and are even more entrenched with social media.

Then iGen generation started in 1995 they have grown up in a time not knowing what it is like to not have the internet or smart phones at their disposal. Millennials have also had a lot of social media and technology at their fingertips, however iGen has grown up after the Great Recession. The Recession caused Millennials to question their place in the world. The iGen generation was shaped not only by the Recession but by the explosion of social media and the smart phone. Since 2007 50% of the population has had a smartphone, with that being said obviously they also have access to the internet.

With the imediet access to social media and the internet it has cause the iGen group to shift in popular trends. They are much more disconnected spending more time all alone and feeling depressed. They are spending more than 3hours in screen time. With this trend also the risk of suicide has risen but this has also caused the iGen less likely to commit homicide and kill one another.

This was a crazy article to read I knew that society was spending more and more time in front of their screens. There are both good and bad things with this taking place, it is nice to see that society is recording interactions more and more. However it has also cause to a rise in bullying especially among girls. Girls attack other girls social standing and tear away at their friend group. As teachers I believe we need to emphasize the good things technology and social media provide and caution students about the negative results social media and bullying can have.
