In this module we learned about TPACK. TPACK stands for Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge. TPACK is comprised of 3 main areas such as:

  • Content Knowledge

  • Pedagogical Knowledge

  • Technological Knowledge

Content Knowledge is the “What” or the Standards are you teaching your students examples are Biology, Log Division, The Civil War or other. This will requite you to check with the Ohio teaching standards to make sure you are meeting what is required by the state.

Pedagogical Knowledge is the “How”. This is the way you as a teacher will be teaching your students through Lectures, Activities and more.

Technological Knowledge is the “Partner”. This is what devices you need to consider to help connect the content to have meaning to the students.

TPACK is the sweet spot in the middle if we overlap all of these areas. Here is a video form the module to help explain TPACK better:

Prior to this module I have never heard of this idea. After the module went step by step to explain the importance of doing this I can easy to see how and why teachers need to do this. By hitting the sweet spot in TPACK you will increase students’ motivation as well as their understanding of the lesson. As hard as it may be for teachers to hit that sweet spot it is equally that important. Moving forward in our careers we must put an extra effort and focus on hitting that sweet spot in all our lessons so we can increase student motivation and help them understand the material more clearly.
