In this week’s article we learned about Storytelling and how it has evolved in the 21st Century. It was interesting how the article described Digital story telling as a way to tell a story though digital technology. It also describes how narratives are built from the stuff on cyber culture.
I never really gave much thought to how the world we live in has changed the way we tell stories and interact with one another. Now anyone anywhere can tell a story using any form, media or device. Data can be used to help increase the understanding and value of the story. As new technology is introduced it also creates new ways for authors to create and tell stories.
The First Wave of Digital Story Telling started before the World Wide Web came into play. It started with Board games back in the 1960’s. It exploded not only in content but the way stories are told at the end of the Cold War. Moving to current day, the art of storytelling has drastically changed as new technologies have allowed story tellers to be more creative.
The first online stories are called Hypertexts. These types of storytelling ushered in the Next Wave of Digital Story Telling. This new wave starts to cover a blend of storytelling methods such as Story Telling, Sociamei, and Gaming.
It was interesting to learn a little history on how the art of storytelling has evolved over the years to get us to where we are today and all the digital story telling that takes place.
